Understanding Volusia County Releases
A release from Volusia County Division of Corrections means custody ended for one county booking. The person may have returned to the community on bond, recognizance, pretrial release, sentence completion, or another court order. A record can also mark transfer to the Florida Department of Corrections, another county, federal custody, or immigration custody. That transfer is not the same as freedom. The release code, receiving agency, charge status, and court docket give the timestamp its proper meaning.
The Division of Corrections operates both the Volusia County Branch Jail and Volusia County Correctional Facility. It is separate from the Volusia Sheriff's Office. VCDC holds the official county jail record, while the Clerk holds the official court record. FDC controls state-prison release data for Tomoka Correctional Institution and Tomoka Work Camp. This split explains why one roster cannot answer every Volusia County released inmate question.

Volusia County Release Types
The county archive should be read with the charge table and court case. A bond or pretrial release ends jail custody while the criminal case remains open. Sentence completion usually points toward the court judgment and credit calculation. A transfer closes VCDC custody but continues confinement elsewhere. Death, remand, or another uncommon status should be confirmed directly rather than inferred from a blank roster.

A court disposition such as dismissal can affect the case without proving the exact time a person walked out. In the same way, a release timestamp proves the end of VCDC custody for that booking, not the final result of every charge.
Volusia Release Record Fields
The Volusia inmate archive exposes the core data needed to distinguish a live booking from a completed one. Archive results include a booking number, photograph, inmate ID, name fields, sex, race, booking date, release date, and the InCustody field. Opening a booking adds charge, statute, bond, arrest case, court case, disposition, and charge-status fields. The online screen is useful, but its disclaimer says only jail-maintained records count as official VCDC records and online images are not certified copies.

The archive does not publish a fixed retention period. Save the booking number and request the underlying record when the web view is not enough.
Request Volusia County Release Records
An official county release packet comes from the Volusia County Public Records Center. A precise request reduces search time. Identify the committed name, booking number, and approximate dates. Ask for the booking sheet, booking photograph, booking and release date and time, release code or reason, authorization, charge and bond history, and any public hold, transfer, or receiving-agency information.

- Open the County Public Records Center and choose the corrections record route.
- Describe the fields and narrow date range needed.
- Ask for an estimate before approving a large or labor-intensive response.
- Retain the request reference number and download the supplied files when notified.
Florida Statute § 119.07(4) permits up to $0.15 per one-sided standard copy for ten or more pages, an additional $0.05 for a two-sided copy, up to $1 for certification, actual cost for other media, and a reasonable special-service charge for extensive work. A Sheriff's incident report and a VCDC jail release record have different custodians. Request the jail record from Volusia County Corrections.
Volusia Release Records Law
Florida Constitution article I, section 24 and Chapter 119 provide the public-record framework. A requester does not need special legal language. The request should identify the right custodian and record. Exempt material can be withheld or redacted, including protected victim data, medical or mental-health information, security-sensitive content, juvenile information, and records affected by a sealing or expunction order.
The Clerk's court file answers a different question. It can show an adjudication, sentence, dismissal, plea, or later order. A VCDC release entry answers when county custody ended. Both may be needed. Certified court copies are requested from the Clerk rather than printed from the jail screen.
Volusia Release Expunction Steps
Volusia's local process begins with a Clerk-certified final disposition. The applicant then completes the FDLE eligibility process, including the state application, fingerprints, prosecutor material when required, and proof that probation ended if it applied. FDLE charges a $75 nonrefundable fee and says review commonly takes about twelve weeks or more. It does not expedite the process.
After FDLE issues a certificate, the local petition, sworn statement, proposed order, original certificate, and $42 Clerk filing fee go into the Volusia case. The certificate alone does not hide a record. A court must grant relief and agencies must implement the order under § 943.0585 or § 943.059. Previously obtained copies do not automatically vanish.
How Volusia Releases Are Timed
A judge's order does not produce an instant physical release. Court must finish for the day, the person returns to the assigned unit, and Corrections must receive the paperwork. VCDC says processing generally takes two to four hours after it begins. Since April 29, 2024, a person is not released between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless a responsible party is present, checks in with Control, and provides transportation.
All women physically leave through the Volusia County Correctional Facility. Lobby screens display release status, but a person waiting outside should allow for court paperwork and internal processing. The archive time should later be used to confirm the event. Note: A court order, archive update, and physical exit can occur at different times on the same release.
Getting Home After Volusia Release
Transportation must be planned around the actual exit building and time. VoTran Route 10 serves a shelter at the Branch Jail, but the bus does not enter the jail parking lot. A rider should check the current stop and schedule and account for the walk. VCDC's reentry team also reports issuing local and state bus passes for travel to family locations.
The overnight rule makes a responsible ride especially important for late processing. A confirmed release time should be paired with the facility, because women leave from the Correctional Facility even when readers expect the Branch Jail.
Bond Release in Volusia County
The Branch Jail Booking Office provides bond information around the clock at 386-254-1555. At first appearance, a judge may keep or change bond, release a person on recognizance, or order Pretrial Supervision. The Seventh Circuit's 2026 bond schedule order guides discretionary release before first appearance but does not bind the judge in an individual case.
Bond ends custody, not the prosecution. The archive should show a release timestamp and no current VCDC custody for that booking. The Clerk docket then shows later hearings, filings, and disposition.
Volusia County Release Scale
The 2024 VCDC annual report recorded 18,788 people processed. Released people averaged 18 days in custody. The report says 55.6 percent stayed one to three days, nearly 89 percent left within 60 days, and bond accounted for 69 percent of releases.
That turnover explains why a current roster is a poor historical tool. Archive mode preserves the search path after the live population changes.
Find Volusia County Released Inmates
Start with the last known custodian. The county archive is best for a Branch Jail or Correctional Facility booking. FDC is correct for Tomoka or another Florida prison. A court docket establishes what happened in the case. Federal and immigration systems cover their own custody.
- Search the Volusia inmate inquiry by name or booking number and enable Include Archive Records.
- Confirm a populated Release Date and InCustody marked N, then open the detail.
- Read the charge status, court number, and any transfer clue.
- Use the Clerk docket for the official case path.
- Search the appropriate FDC, BOP, or ICE system if custody may have shifted.
- Request the official release sheet when the online fields remain unclear.
The county's Recent button means recent bookings, not recent releases. A 24-hour release check must compare archive timestamps because no countywide release feed exists.
A released person often disappears from a live roster. Enable archive records and use the release date instead of treating absence as proof.
Florida Search for Volusia Releases
FDC separates current incarceration, inmate releases, community supervision, and absconders. Use the Inmate Release Information Search for a person released or scheduled for release from state prison. Search by DC number when known, or by name with sex, race, and birth date to reduce false matches. Released detail records may display Release Date and Date Out-Custody.

The release form is a statewide prison tool. It does not list ordinary Volusia County jail bond releases.

Volusia Archive Release Search
Volusia does not publish a complete prefiltered 24-hour or 72-hour release list. Its inmate inquiry updates on a stated 15-minute cadence and allows a named archive search. The Recent button shows recent bookings. The Clerk's 24 Hour Arrest List also shows arrests rather than releases. Neither should be relabeled as a release feed.
The county search screen displays the archive control and booking-focused Recent option.
For one person, enable archive records and compare the exact release timestamp. For a full date export, request booking number, inmate ID, booking and release time, release code, facility, case, bond indicator, hold or destination, and photo availability from VCDC.
Volusia Release Supervision Check
Release does not always end court or corrections oversight. Probation is a court-ordered community sentence. Parole is discretionary release before sentence expiration for a limited Florida population. Conditional release and other FDC supervision types also appear in the statewide Supervised Population database. An absconder is a supervised person who stopped making themselves available to the agency; absence from jail does not mean a successful discharge.
Use the FDC supervision search for status, office, and termination information, then contact the listed office. The separate absconder search is relevant when reporting stopped. Circuit 7 field offices and FCOR records provide the next layer of confirmation.
IDs After Volusia County Release
VCDC's Identity Program works on Florida identification cards or licenses, birth certificates, and replacement Social Security cards before release. That local service can help a person leave with documents needed for ordinary reentry tasks. It does not alter the custody record.
Personal property held by Corrections is returned at release. Approved early pickup is available around the clock with identification, and approval remains active for five days before the property returns to storage. Large items may remain with the arresting agency, so property and release-record questions can have different custodians.
ICE After Volusia County Release
VCDC entered a 287(g) Jail Enforcement Model agreement with ICE in February 2025. A populated county release date can therefore mark a handoff rather than a return to the community. First confirm the VCDC release, then search the ICE Online Detainee Locator by A-number and country of birth or by exact identity details. If ODLS is unresolved, ICE's Detention Reporting and Information Line is 1-888-351-4024.
ICE says its locator can include current detainees and some people released from ICE custody within the last 60 days, subject to exclusions and lag. No result alone does not disprove immigration involvement.
Federal Volusia Release Records
No BOP prison was identified in Volusia County. A federal defendant may still be held through an outside arrangement and moved. The BOP inmate locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward. A result showing Released or Not in BOP Custody, a past release date, and no facility confirms the end of BOP custody, but another authority or supervised release may still apply.
The BOP search demonstrates the separate federal route.
For a pretrial federal release, consult the federal court order and actual holding facility. The U.S. Marshals Service has no comparable public nationwide released-person list.

Volusia County Release Facilities
The county and state facilities use two distinct record families. The Volusia County Branch Jail is the intake and bond center; community releases and transfers are traced through the county archive. The Volusia County Correctional Facility houses county-sentenced people and all women, and all women physically release there. Tomoka Correctional Institution and Tomoka Work Camp are FDC facilities, so their release and supervision records come from state databases.

The two county buildings opened in 1987 and 1977. Later construction and double occupancy brought their combined current design capacity to 1,722, with 1,042 at the Branch Jail and 680 at the Correctional Facility. Juvenile centers are excluded from this adult facility list because their records and release routes run through DJJ and juvenile court.
