Check Volusia County Correctional Facility Releases

To find someone released from Volusia County Correctional Facility, use the shared county archive and confirm the release timestamp for the correct booking. This county jail houses sentenced and nonsentenced adults, and it is the physical release point for all women held by Volusia County. A Volusia County release can lead back to the community or onward to another custodian. The archive, court docket, and any receiving-agency search work together to show which path occurred. That distinction is vital when a person leaves the county roster but does not return home.

Correctional Facility Release Paths

The Volusia County Correctional Facility houses county-sentenced people, low- and medium-custody nonsentenced men, and all women in county custody. A community release may follow sentence completion, bond, recognizance, pretrial supervision, or another court-authorized event. Yet the same county release timestamp can mark a transfer to FDC, another jail, federal custody, or immigration custody. It establishes the end of VCDC custody on that booking, not the end of every possible hold.

The physical exit rule is especially important here. Volusia says all female inmates leave through the Correctional Facility. A family should not assume that a woman exits from the Branch Jail just because intake, bond, or first appearance occurred there. Lobby release screens at both buildings provide current information, while the archive preserves the booking-specific release date.

Find Correctional Facility Release Records

Both VCDC buildings use the same Volusia inmate archive. Search controls include last name, first name, booking number, and an Include Archive Records option. The separate Recent button means recent bookings, not recent releases. For someone who has already left the county system, archive mode is essential.

  1. Accept the disclaimer and search by booking number when known. Otherwise use the name and verify identity fields.
  2. Enable Include Archive Records in Search before submitting the lookup.
  3. Find the matching booking. Read Booking Date, Release Date, and InCustody together.
  4. Open the booking detail and record its court case number, charge status, bond data, and disposition fields.
  5. Check the next custodian when a hold or transfer is possible. Do not equate disappearance from the live roster with a community release.
Important: A populated release date and InCustody = N confirm that VCDC stopped holding the person for that booking, not that every custody system did.

The county detail is not a certified record. It points to the identifiers needed for a focused records request and a Clerk search. The broader Volusia County release search explains how those local records connect to FDC, BOP, ICE, VINE, and court sources.

Results expose booking number, inmate ID, identity fields, booking and release dates, photo, and InCustody. Opening the detail adds charge descriptions, statutes, bond data, arrest and court case numbers, disposition, and charge status. These fields help identify the correct booking and connect it to the court case. They do not make the web display an official certificate, and they do not state that another agency lacks custody.

A failed name search requires a fallback, not a conclusion. Try the booking number, common aliases, and the archive option. Then call booking staff, check the Clerk case, and follow any receiving custodian. Online retention has no published fixed span. Restricted, sealed, expunged, or juvenile information can also be unavailable through the ordinary adult public archive.

The county's official release FAQ also describes the current physical-release process.

This guidance is particularly useful for confirming the women's release location and understanding why a court action can precede the actual exit by several hours.

Correctional Facility Records Contact

VCDC, not the Volusia Sheriff's Office, operates the Correctional Facility. The facility can address current custody or release routing. The County Public Records Center handles documentary requests for booking and release materials. Sending a VCDC jail request to the sheriff's incident-record custodian can delay a response because those offices hold different records.

Facility: 386-254-1565
Booking, bonding, charges, arrests: 386-254-1540
Case Management: 386-254-1548

Use the County Public Records Center for the official release package. A precise request can seek the booking sheet, release timestamp, release code or reason, authorization, charge and bond history, transfer or hold information, receiving agency, and public booking photograph. Include the booking number and date span. Volusia does not publish a promised response time, a photo-specific fee, or a fixed online archive duration.

Standard Chapter 119 copy charges may apply, along with a reasonable special-service charge for extensive technology or staff work. Ask for an estimate before authorizing a large search. An electronic request can be tracked in the portal, and an anonymous workflow is available if the requestor keeps the reference number.

The County fee schedule allows standard copying charges under section 119.07, including charges for paper copies, certification, other media, and extensive staff or technology use. Those public-record fees are distinct from booking and subsistence assessments charged during confinement. Narrow dates and identifiers reduce search work and make the response more likely to address the precise release event.

Correctional Facility Release Timing

For a court-authorized release, Corrections waits for court to finish, the person to return to the assigned unit, and the paperwork to arrive. Processing generally takes two to four hours after it begins. The actual span depends on the case, holds, and operating conditions. A court docket entry can therefore appear before a person is ready to leave the facility.

VCDC restricts releases between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. A release during that period requires a responsible party to be at the building, check in with Control, and provide transport away from the property. This policy has applied since April 29, 2024. The facility's lobby screen is the local current-status check for someone waiting nearby.

For women, the Correctional Facility is the release door regardless of where county intake began. For men, verify the actual building rather than relying on a prior booking screen. A transfer to another custodian follows the receiving agency's process and is not governed as an ordinary community pickup.

Note: Release processing starts after staff receive completed court paperwork; the judge's action alone does not set the physical exit time.

Correctional Facility Release History

The Correctional Facility opened in 1977. Volusia's 2024 annual report lists a current design capacity of 680, which supersedes an older county webpage figure of 595. The newer number reflects later construction within the two-building VCDC system. Combined design capacity reached 1,722 after a new dorm was finished in 2024.

Capacity is not a live population figure. It also does not show how many releases occurred at this door. Its value is facility context: the Correctional Facility and Branch Jail share one archive but have distinct custody and exit roles. The exact booking, release field, and physical release location must be checked for the individual event.

Correctional Facility ICE Releases

Volusia's February 2025 agreement with ICE under the 287(g) Jail Enforcement Model makes custody handoffs a real local issue. A detainer can request notice before an otherwise authorized county release and additional time for federal officers to assume custody. The VCDC archive may then show a release even though the person did not enter the community.

After confirming the county timestamp, search the ICE Online Detainee Locator. It accepts a nine-digit A-number with country of birth, or an exact name with date and country of birth. ICE notes that the system can lag and excludes some people. No result is not conclusive. The ICE Detention Reporting and Information Line at 1-888-351-4024 is the next channel.

State and federal transfers follow their own records. Use FDC Inmate Population if the county released the person to Florida prison custody. Use the federal docket and, where applicable, the BOP locator for a federal case. There is no identified BOP prison or dedicated ICE detention center in Volusia County.

Correctional Facility Release Property

Ordinary property stored by Corrections and commissary items return at release. Large bags and backpacks can remain with the arresting agency, so the Correctional Facility may not hold every item expected. Kept clothing is issued back for release. Any check is made only in the inmate's name.

A person can authorize early property pickup with a tablet Property Release Form. Call first to confirm approval. The authorized recipient must bring identification, may collect approved property at any hour, and has five days before the approval returns to storage. That process concerns possessions only and does not alter custody.

VCDC reentry staff report arranging local or state-specific bus passes for trips to family locations. The transportation aid applies to community release planning. If another agency receives the person, transport and property rules may instead follow that custodian.
