Volusia County Release Mugshot Records

A mugshot is the identification photograph made during a booking. Release from Volusia County jail does not turn that image into a release certificate. The photo stays tied to the arrest booking, while Release Date and InCustody fields describe the custody event. Charges, a court case number, bond data, and disposition fields supply other context. The Volusia Clerk holds official court records, and VCDC says its online images are not certified true or correct copies.

Florida's public-record framework begins with article I, section 24 of the state constitution and Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes. Exemptions still apply. Protected victim data, juvenile material, sealed or expunged cases, health information, security-sensitive details, and booking photographs protected under a specific statute may be withheld or redacted. A missing image does not prove that no booking occurred.

Find Volusia County Release Mugshots

The right channel depends on who held the person. VCDC maintains county booking images for the Branch Jail and Correctional Facility. FDC maintains state-prison offender photos, including records related to Tomoka Correctional Institution and Tomoka Work Camp. The two images can come from different events and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Volusia County has no official corrections mobile app identified for released mugshots. The jail archive is therefore the best local web route. Unofficial archive or aggregator copies may be stale, miscaptioned, or detached from the court outcome. They receive no links here and should never replace an agency record.

Note: A booking image identifies a recorded booking event; it does not show whether the person is still held, released, or transferred now.

Search Volusia County Photo Archives

Open the Volusia inmate information search, pass the disclaimer, and enter a last name plus first name or a booking number. Turn on Include Archive Records in Search. Without that box, a person who left VCDC custody may be missed. Archive results can show Booking #, a thumbnail Photo, Inmate ID, name fields, sex, race, Booking Date, Release Date, and InCustody.

1. Use the booking number when available because it ties the image to one custody event and reduces name-match errors.
2. Enable archive records, search, and confirm the name, booking date, release date, and InCustody value.
3. Open the booking number to view the larger photograph and charge table when an image remains public.
4. Record the Arrest Case # and Court Case #, then check the Volusia Clerk for the case disposition.
5. Request an official copy from VCDC when the online image or screen capture is not enough.

The detail page may also show age, city and state, bond data, statute descriptions, case numbers, disposition, and charge status. A populated release timestamp with InCustody set to N means VCDC ended custody for that booking. It does not prove that another county, FDC, federal authorities, or immigration authorities did not receive the person.

Request Volusia County Booking Photos

VCDC is the custodian for county jail booking photographs. Do not send the request to the Volusia Sheriff's Office merely because a deputy made the arrest. VSO separately controls its incident and arrest reports. A focused VCDC request should identify the person and booking, ask only for releasable material, and pair the photograph with the booking/release sheet.

1. Gather the committed name, booking number, approximate booking date, and court case number from the archive.
2. Open the Volusia County Public Records Center linked by Corrections.
3. Ask for “the releasable booking photograph associated with booking [number], plus the booking/release sheet.”
4. Request the release date and time, release code or reason, charge and bond history, and public hold or transfer information if needed.
5. Ask for a cost estimate before approving a large search or extensive service charge.
6. Keep the request reference number and check portal status, especially when using the anonymous-account workflow.

The county does not publish a photo-specific fee, promised turnaround, or fixed archive duration. Its fee FAQ tracks section 119.07(4), including standard-copy charges, certification, actual duplication costs, and a reasonable special-service charge for extensive work.

Note: Narrow dates and booking identifiers reduce search burden, while the county may redact or withhold any image protected by law.

Volusia County State Prison Photos

A person released from Tomoka or another Florida prison belongs in the FDC Inmate Release Information Search, not the VCDC archive. FDC release-detail profiles commonly retain an offender photograph beside the DC number, committed name, offenses, sentence history, last facility, Release Date, and incarceration history. An FDC photo is a prison or offender photograph. It is not necessarily the Volusia arrest booking photo. It can help match identity, yet it does not prove present custody. Because the release database also contains scheduled future releases, inspect the actual date and incarceration history instead of assuming every result reflects a completed exit.

Volusia County Mugshots in News

Official Volusia Sheriff's Office news releases and Daily Activity Reports sometimes include an arrest image, narrative, or hold context. Neither source is a release feed. A news photograph may also be a scene image rather than the VCDC booking photograph, so compare the caption with the booking number and agency record.

Commercial archive and aggregator pages may copy public booking images. They are discovery leads only. Their custody labels, time stamps, and removal practices are not official, and an old page can survive after the county record changes. No commercial mugshot publisher, data broker, or fee-based removal service is endorsed or linked.

A blank VSO news search does not mean the image is unavailable through VCDC. Corrections is a separate county division from the Sheriff. Start with the VCDC archive for county custody, FDC for state prison custody, and the Clerk for judicial history.

Florida Mugshot Removal Rules

Florida Statute 901.43 applies to covered mugshot-publishing businesses. It bars them from seeking or accepting payment to remove an arrest booking photograph. A subject or legal representative may send the business's registered agent a written request by registered mail, with proof of identity and enough information to locate the image. A covered business must remove the image without charge within ten calendar days and must not republish or spread it again.

The law permits enforcement that can include an injunction, fees and costs, or statutory civil penalties. Its scope matters. This is not a universal command forcing VCDC, FDC, every news outlet, or every lawful government archive to erase a photo. Government access turns on public-record law, exemptions, and any valid sealing or expunction order.

Chapter 119 also contains protection for booking photographs of specified eligible people who assert it. The Clerk's 24-hour arrest report warns that protected people are excluded. Therefore, absence from the report proves neither that no arrest happened nor that no separate release record exists.

Volusia County Expunction Steps

Volusia has a defined local path. First obtain a certified final disposition from the Clerk. Then apply to FDLE for a certificate of eligibility with the required fingerprints, prosecutor statement when applicable, probation-termination proof when probation occurred, and the state's $75 nonrefundable fee. FDLE says review generally takes about twelve weeks or more and is not expedited.

The certificate alone does not seal or expunge a record. After FDLE issues it, file the local petition package, sworn statement, proposed order, and original certificate with the Volusia Clerk. The Clerk publishes a $42 filing fee. Section 943.0585 governs expunction, while section 943.059 governs sealing.

A court must grant relief, and agencies must implement the order before access changes. Neither filing an application nor receiving an eligibility certificate ensures immediate removal of a VCDC photograph. Previously obtained copies may also persist outside official sources. Never reconstruct or republish protected material that has disappeared from an agency page.
